Morning Oats

You can make oat “milk” in your own kitchen! I had no idea before noticing this article in Farmer’s Almanac. Talk about easy peasy! Since we’ve recently started exploring non-dairy options, the idea of saving money by making our own oat- er, em… juice(?) caught my attention.

Processed foods generally frighten me. Looking at an ingredient label is a lot like asking “What is in the sausage?” (A terrifying idea.) When we started trying different dairy substitutes I was concerned about adding a factory-food to our regular diet. Imagine my surprise when this non-dairy option could be made at home!

When trying a new recipe, I always look for the best ingredients available, and so ordered organic oats online. Why the effort to find organic oats? Because in order for the oat harvest to be ready (read as: nice and dry for the giant harvesters) almost all grains are sprayed with a drying agent about two weeks before harvest time. Nuts are treated this way, too. (shudders…)

And with all these lovely oats arriving it would be fun to explore making a few other oat things, like muesli, granola, and porridge!

Trust me to go all “health food” on my health food. Ha ha.
