Welcome Home

Making a house home for an active family is challenging. It doesn’t matter if you are single, married, part, or full-time: Homemaking is a demanding endeavor.

Despite my good efforts, I was embarrassed to tell friends and new people that I was a Homemaker. I tried to get jobs that would cover more than daycare expenses. I failed at more than a few home-based businesses, mostly because I was too busy with the kids and housework to dedicate much time to any outside work.

And amazingly, it was difficult to feel proud of my untracked accomplishments. I might have done a hundred loads of wash, washed a ton of dishes, cooked meals for a million, and none of it enough to counter the question “What do you do all day?”

I also discovered that Homemaking is much more than housework.

You, my Dear Reader, as a Homemaker, are the very heartbeat of your home. Your smile, your attitude, your steady comfort and advice, these are the things that uplift your family and create a real home. That is a lot of responsibility.

Right now, life may be less than perfect for you. Bills to pay, illness to deal with, and (if your home is like mine,) a well-lived in mess in every room. But – at this particular moment – everything is “okay”. Even “not great” is still okay.

Okay is enough to be grateful for the good that is still around you. And okay is good enough to give someone a smile, and say “I love you.”

You got this. Homemaking is still the most important job in the world. Let’s do it together.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention… Membership to our HG social community is now open! Be sure to drop a note and say “Hi!”. And let us know… what special things do you do to brighten the mood at home? 😀
